Heunginjimun Gate

Heunginjimun, also known as Dongdaemun, is the eastern gate of the Seoul City Wall, which was originally built to protect the capital of Hanseong. First constructed in 1396 during the Joseon Dynasty and rebuilt in 1869, this two-story structure features the elaborate decorative style typical of the late Joseon period. It is the only gate among the eight main city gates to feature a semicircular defensive wall, known as an ongseong. Located right next to Exit 9 of Dongdaemun Station (Subway Lines 1 and 4), it is conveniently situated near the Seoul City Wall Park, the Hanyangdoseong Museum, DDP, and Dongdaemun Market.
